To grow a new clean energy economy, it’s going to take plenty of skilled renewable energy professionals, from designers and developers to installers and operators, and one organization is making strides toward training both active U.S. military personnel and veterans for futures in solar energy.
For those who qualify, scholarships covering 100% of the tuition costs are available from Solar Energy International (SEI) toward their online PV101 course, which is the first course in the SEI Solar Professionals Certificate Program.
“We believe in the opportunities that renewable energy can afford our country, such as energy independence and sustainable use of our country’s natural resources. With that in mind, we also honor those who have served our country and who are choosing to follow up their military service with a new kind of service; service in the renewable energy sector.” – Kathy Swartz, SEI executive director
The SEI Veterans and Active Duty Military Certificate Training Program could be a great first step toward a new career for veterans, and active duty military trainers with a role in solar energy can also take advantage of the SEI “Train-the-trainers” certificate path.
While only the PV101 course is currently covered in the scholarship program, other funds could become available in the future. According to Solar Reviews, after the technical PV training, graduates will be connected with SEI’s alumni network, and a partnership with Veterans Green Jobs is helping SEI advocate for employment for those that have completed the training.
To find out more, or to apply, see SEI’s Solar Professionals Certificate Program (and if you apply, be sure to note that you are a veteran or active duty military member when filling out the application).
