Make the most of your time and energy while riding your bike with the addition of a pedal-assist electric motor, which can be installed as easily as mounting a wheel.

The FlyKly Smart Wheel can turn any bicycle into an electric bike, by taking the place of the rear wheel and offering a speed boost while reducing the energy needed to propel the bike through the streets.

“Move through busy city streets in no time and spare your energy with the help of Smart Wheel, a pedal assist that encases an ultra-thin electric motor and intelligent electronics within a robust housing, neatly fitted onto the spokes of a bicycle rim. It fits practically any bicycle frame and helps you use your bike more efficiently and comfortably, when and where you need it.” – FlyKly

The FlyKly weighs in at 9 pounds, has a range of 30 miles, and has a top speed of 20 mph. The 250W motor is powered by a 36V lithium battery, which can be fully charged in about 3 hours, and is capable of partially recharging itself using regenerative braking. The wheel comes in two rim sizes, 26″ or 29″, and is available in 8 colors (white, black, grey, blue, red, green, yellow, pink).

The Smart Wheel connects with Bluetooth to a smartphone (or smart watch) with the FlyKly app, which allows users to set a top speed for the bike, and to remotely lock it for security, and to track it via GPS, just in case it gets stolen. The app also monitors the speed, distance, and travel time, and can analyze the user’s cycling habits in order to suggest the routes that would be the quickest, the safest, or the most attractive.

The FlyKly Smart Wheel is currently in a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and backers at the $590 level will get one of the first ones produced.
