The coming age of the Internet of Things, and the trend of more connected gadgets, has brought us some easy to use tools that can give us precise statistics on our household energy consumption, from whole-house systems to standalone or modular devices, and now there’s another contender in the smart plug category.
Parce, which is billed as “The World’s First Intelligent Energy-Saving Program for Everyone,” is a modular system of smart plugs that can monitor and control the electrical usage from individual outlets, and can give users more granular control (even remotely) of their appliances. The system uses a mobile app and a web-based cloud app to display visual reports that can help users see how to save more energy (and money), and the Parce devices are capable of learning your habits and even reminding you to power down appliances you’re not using at the moment.
Detailed scheduling can be set up to automatically manage your energy use, but individual devices can also be manually powered off or on if desired, which can help cut down on wasted energy when you’re not at home.
According to Parce, this system has the potential to save up to $200 USD per year, which works out to around 30 to 50% of annual electricity bills, so the units can pay for themselves through savings in a relatively short amount of time.
“The Parce device gets smarter the longer you use it. It picks up on your TV viewing habits, the times of day you need energy most, and even when you’re out of the house.
Easily and quickly view your home’s total power consumption at any time. See how much money and CO2 you’ve saved and find out how to save even more.
Parce helpfully asks you if it can turn off standby devices, without you needing to command it to do so.
Define detailed schedules for the Parce or select from a host of pre-defined settings. Boast about/Share your energy savings through social networks.” – Parce
The Parce system is currently the focus of a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, with backers at the $79 level receiving one of the Parce One devices for their support.
