A GPS Adventure Box For Endless Outdoors Fun

Just a week ago, CES 2014 wrapped up in Las Vegas. It was a great show with tons of new product announcements, along with a few duds. This week, however, we’d like to focus on Kickstarter.

The crowdfunding platform has come a long way since its inception in 2011, with bigger and better projects receiving their funding each campaign. We’d like to shed some light on the campaigns we feel have the greatest potential to better your daily life from an eco-tech standpoint.

Today’s choice is the ‘GPS AdventureBox‘ from creator Garrett Hendrick.

The box is essentially an empty wooden container with a lock on it. You can place whatever sorts of knick-knacks, gifts, toys, candy, etc that you’d like to give to someone (or yourself for that matter, because we all deserve a treat every now and then).

What makes the AdventureBox different from other puzzle boxes is that it requires a person to travel along a set GPS route in order to unlock. Basically, you buy the box, put the desired items inside, visit the AdventureBox website and program in the GPS coordinates you’d like your gift-receiver to go to, and then voila–instant adventure fun.

The box encourages families and friends to get outside and explore the wonderful outdoors. It’s similar to GeoCaching, except that rather than hiding items for others to find them, you’re traveling to the GPS waypoints with the item already in hand in order to discover what’s inside.

The company received their full funding for the campaign a few hours ago. Check out the  promo video.
