Compact Speaker Systems – How Do They Sound?

With portability and versatility in mind, compact speaker systems are popping up all over that are designed to work with smartphones, tablets and laptops. These are space saving and can carry less of an impact than larger scale models.

Vers has a line of speakers that come in handcrafted wood cabinets that are said to enhance the sound quality. The Vers 1Q started as a concept product on Kickstarter and is now available.

When 2 of the 1Qs are combined they become a 13 watt stereo system, and this also comes standard in the 2Q.

The company has an environmentally responsible aspect built into their business model.

They work in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service and the Arbor Day Foundation to re-establish all of the wood resources they use for production by 100 to 1. They also help to restore habitats damaged by fires and erosion and state that they will plant a tree for every one that their customers plant.

According to their website, 1 tree is equivalent to 1,000 1Q’s, and they have planted more than 4000 trees to date.

Another speakerphone with a more economical price tag is the Monocle from Native Union. It can be held by the ear, similar to a headphone, or it can be twisted in order to turn it into a boom box.

It allows users to still take their calls when used with a smartphone, and 2 can be branched together to allow private calls and music sharing. For a larger sound, it can be hooked up with up to 10 other Monocles.

It has a nylon reinforced cord, comes in several colors and certainly looks the part of stylish, but some seem a bit skeptical of its sound capabilities.

Check it out and see what your opinion is:

There are several other products like these on the market, some with a focus on sound as well as on ecological concerns. If you have one or have heard any, let us know what you think of their performance.
