If you’ve been yearning to get smarter lighting for your home or office, but have been put off by the relatively high price of smart LED bulbs, now’s your chance to reserve a compact, Bluetooth-enabled smart bulb, controlled by your smartphone, and capable of producing a huge range of colors.
The LuMini, which is a smaller and more affordable version of Tabu‘s Lumen TL800 LED smart bulb, which can fit into a standard light bulb socket, and be precisely controlled through an app on your smartphone. This new version is more of a mood lighting and accent lamp than the original Lumen bulb, and is about 50% smaller than other LED light bulbs.
“LuMini is very much like the Original Lumen Smart Bulb, except the LuMini is more of a mood light, it has a set of RGB (R=red, G=green, B=blue) LED inside to help generate millions of colors based on your mood. Whereas the Original Lumen, it also has the same set of RGB LED, but we added a set of White LED inside, so you can get the warm white light just like the traditional LED Bulb.”
The accompanying app, for iOS and Android, allows users to not just control the bulb’s colors, but also has a variety of modes for meeting the needs of its users. The party mode lets users synchronize the lighting to music, the proximity mode allows the bulb to know when you’re in your house, the romance mode provides a romantic atmosphere for special times with a loved one, and the relaxation mode creates a relaxing ambient atmosphere. The LuMini can also signal users for incoming calls, so important phone calls aren’t missed.
Not only can this smart LED bulb reduce electricity use for lighting, but they last a really long time – up to 30,000 hours – which also cuts down on costs and resources.
If you’d like to pick up a LuMini or two, backers of the project on Kickstarter can pre-order theirs starting at the $30 level (or $50 for two bulbs), which will be shipped in April of this year.
