Tesla Model S

Motor Trend’s choice for 2013 Car of The Year surprised everybody, though it really shouldn’t have.

The all-electric Model S sedan by Tesla is one of the most innovative and unique cars on the market, which should please everyone who envisions a future of sustainable transportation.

Tesla was founded in 2003 by Elon Musk and a group of intrepid Silicon Valley engineers who sought to change the automobile market. Elon Musk is also the famous co-founder of Paypal and creator of the SpaceX corporation. Their first electric model, the Tesla Roadster, debuted to a mixed market reaction and a high sticker price.

Since their early endeavor into the automobile market, Tesla has re-imagined everything from the interior of their vehicles, to the engines underneath the hood. You can be sure that the Model S is a shape of things to come, considering the heavy competition from the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf.

The Tesla automobile is sleek, elegant, and comfortable with its seven-seat capacity. Designed with a 300 mile-per-charge range, and boasting 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, the Model S destroys its competitors with ease. Compared to seven-seater vans and SUV’s of similar pricing, Tesla’s flagship vehicle is the clear choice for families with kids, or individuals who enjoy a little space in their vehicle.

Behind the driver’s wheel, the Model S feels a bit like the cockpit of a spaceship. It has a 17” dashboard computer for connecting to the internet, navigating streets and highways, audio and video playback, and monitoring your car’s electrical usage.

Given the included $7,000 U.S. federal tax credit for purchasing eco-friendly vehicles, the Model S is a hard one to pass up if you can afford it. Tesla is betting everything on the success of their electric vehicle, going so far as to cease production of their Roadster and place the company’s future on the Model S.

And the 2013 Motor Trend seal of approval should be all you need to know about the quality of Tesla’s latest vehicle.
