Of course, there are vested interests and special interest groups lobbying for each side—extending or letting the credits expire—and some groups are more powerful than others. As renewable energy technology has gotten better and experienced an increase in production, there has been a shift from developing the technology to generate energy to developing the technology to store the energy. In the upcoming presidential election, jobs are still a major issue to voters, and the candidates are expected to present plans to increase job growth and sustainability. Recently released jobs reports indicated unemployment dropped to 7.8%, though the people who exist on the fringes claimed it was a conspiracy—unemployment could not be that low. Can you imagine a balloon fitted with turbines and long tubes flying at over 30,000 feet in the air? This just might be the wave of the future in wind energy. According to NASA , at 30,000 feet turbines can tap into the jet stream which could conduct 20,000 to 40,000 watts per meter of energy. This is an abundance more than the normal 500 watts in which ground turbines can produce.
