NASA Plans Europa Mission To Search For Life

As we wrote two years ago, Jupiter’s moon Europa may actually be the best place in our solar system to seek out extraterrestrial life. It’s largely believed that the moon has an entire underwater ecosystem, ripe with the sort of conditions needed to support life, even if only on a bacterial level. A mission several years ago had been denied due to under funding, but renewed pushes seem to have been effective in swaying the minds that hold the money. So why should we detour money from the planned Mars mission and funnel it into this pipe-dream? For starters, it’s… read more

Elon Musk Interested In Supersonic Jets

In the tail end of 2013, Elon Musk was asked what sort of projects he’d like to take on outside of SpaceX and Tesla. One of his visions is of a vertical takeoff/landing supersonic jet that would run more efficiently and cleaner than the lumbering jets of today. This isn’t the first time he’s brought up the idea of an electric jet, however. We got to see a sneak peek of his plans for world domination in this Iron Man 2 cameo. Check out the supersonic jet interview:

Hyperloop Concept May Become Reality — Soon

Next June, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Inc. might become a household name, that is, if Patricia Galloway can pull off one amazing development–namely, the creation of Elon Musk’s “Hyperloop”. If you’ve read the articles about it, you know just how awesome it has the potential to become, provided a great many developmental hurdles are solved. Still, Galloway, the head of HTT Inc., is optimistic and determined to see the project through. After all, she has a great track record of making things happen. The Hyperloop is a tube very much like the ET3 tubes we wrote about last year, albeit with… read more

TED Talks With Visionary Elon Musk

Elon Musk, the famous South African entrepreneur and visionary, sat down with TED a few months ago to talk about his latest projects and his goals for the future. If you don’t know the name, perhaps you’ll recognize his career achievements. He’s the creator of the Tesla Model S electric car (that incidentally won Motor Trends Car of The Year for 2013), the founder of SolarCity which leases solar energy, and the creator of the SpaceX reusable rocket. Space Tourism Faces Obstacles

Elon Musk, Richard Branson, and Jeff Bezos. These are the leaders when it comes to space tourism and innovating the private sector of space exploration. We’re all rooting for them to succeed, because it means we’ll be one step closer to living out Star Trek in real life. Unfortunately, the tourism industry has hit a little snag, namely on the environmental side of things. As it turns out, black carbon buildup in the atmosphere has been predicted to grow in correspondence with the emerging flights of private space companies such as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic. The majority of environmental scientists… read more

The Race into Space

Space travel

During the early 2000’s, unbeknownst to the general public, the next great space race was taking place. Companies such as Richard Branson’s ‘Virgin Galactic’, Jeff Bezos’ ‘Blue Origin’, and Elon Musk’s ‘Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) were all vying for a long-term contract with NASA. The United States space program had long decided to retire their fleet of Space Shuttles, and replace them with a yet-to-be-created transportation system in between 2010 and 2020. Thus competition between these private industry space moguls began. Virgin Galactic made its historic private flight into space in 2004, and the race was on. In 2012 SpaceX made… read more

Mission To Mars

Logo of the company Mars One

An ambitious project is currently underway that hopes to place a permanent colony on the Mars landscape by the year 2023. It’s called Mars One, and its purpose is to “establish the foundation of a permanent settlement from which we will prosper, learn, and grow.” The concept was first imagined in 2011 by Dutch entrepreneur, Bas Lansdorf. His dream of building a habitat on Mars is centered around the idea of the project becoming a reality show on the red planet, which would help fund the mission in its entirety through advertising revenue and sponsorship investments. In a promo video… read more

Viewing The Stars

We all enjoy a good stargazing session every once in awhile, though many of us live in the city, which makes it difficult to see through the lights, pollution, and skyscrapers. Fortunately, there are better solutions available than driving great distances to experience nature firsthand (although we recommend that also). Along with live stargazing resources, below are some terrific industry news websites for the space enthusiast in you. The first is called Spacevidcast. It’s a website with free live-streaming of celestial events, such as meteor showers, lunar eclipses, asteroid passes, and more. Whether you’re on break at work, or at… read more
