Dedon's Nest Rest

An up-market sustainable product, DEDON’s beautiful ‘Nest Rest’ is a zero-waste cocoon for finding inner peace. These Diamonds are 100% Perfect

Recycled Plastic Diamond Seats From Chile

All over the world designers are coming up with new ways of dealing with the millions of tons of plastic thrown away each year. But only some plastic waste gets recycled back due to the complexity of separating the material’s different categories (e.g. PWaysET, HDPE, PS), leading to generate only few amounts of products, which sometimes, have really poor appearance. With this in mind and taking into account what he could source in his local area, Chilean designer Rodrigo Alonso creates beautiful diamond-shaped seats made entirely from recycled plastic coming from old electronics, toys, drink trays and even stadium seats…. read more

Old Electronics Now Sitting Pretty

Chile’s N+ew Fantastic E-Waste Seats

A total of estimated 50 million tons of e-waste is generated globally each year and sadly only 15-20 % of it gets recycled. Technology’s fast pace together with planned obsolescence in objects leave mountains of electronic waste with components that are extremely harmful, if they are not properly managed. But some eco-designers are making good use of this trash, highlighting the problem with cool functional objects. Based in Chile, designer Rodrigo Alonso is busy sorting out unloved CDs, qwerty keyboards, multi-colored cables and motherboards turning them into fantastic e-waste seats. The Latin eco-designer uses (not-so-eco) epoxy resin to “suspend” as… read more

Sit To Save Energy?

Imagine a world where sitting down to do normal things in your cubical or office would save energy. It almost seems too easy and too good to be true. Unlike any other concepts that require a person to do things like ride a bike or walk while you’re working, it doesn’t require a person to do anything more than sit and work. The project Törnberg has designed is called “Unplugged”. The design powers the various gadgets we use to work. It can power laptops,… read more

A Chair Made from the Elements

"Soilid" Chair is Made from Baked Soil and Fungi

Growing your own furniture might seem like a crazy idea, but some designers are already experimenting with this weird and wonderful concept. That is the case of Erez Nevi Pana who is growing his own furniture from natural materials and watches it grow! Made from a mix of soil, fungi and other natural materials, “Soilid” is Pana‘s first experimentation with these kinds of elements, which are common in the garden but rarely seen within the design world. To make this odd looking chair the materials are first measured by volume and weight, and then mixed all together. The mix is then shaped… read more

Hush: A Soft Place to Hide

Hush: a soft place to hide

In a world where we are increasingly more connected and ‘out there’ thanks to social networks, public profiles, CCTV cameras everywhere and advanced phones, what we might really need as a piece of furniture is a place to hide and forget about it all. Created by British designer Freyja Sewell, Hush is a soft cocoon for retreat and finding oneself. Hush is a pod, a warm tiny space, a dark place to unwind and relax in comfort and solitude. Hush is shaped like a womb and it is said to inspire different feelings on different people. It is a soft… read more

Modern eco chair

Butter seat

Australian designers, Nicholas Karlovasitis & Sarah Gibson, have created a 100% recycled chair that itself is 100% recyclable! The Butter Seat is derived almost entirely from post consumer recycled milk containers. The product comes in both upholstered and non-upholstered versions. The non-upholstered version is suitable for indoor and outdoor use as it is UV stable and waterproof. The Butter Seat can be transported as a flat piece to reduce its environmental impact during distribution. The robustness of the chair ensures product longevity and DesignByThem offers a product stewardship program where it takes back products to be repaired, reused or recycled…. read more
