Anti-inflammatory foods

Anti-inflammatory eating has many health benefits that could see us live healthier, longer lives. If we incorporate lots of plant foods and moderate portions of animal foods into our diet, we would see a much healthier population.

Below are ten foods that are high in anti-inflammatory properties which have anti-aging benefits also.

1. Blueberry

A rich source of anti-oxidants, blueberries are high in phytochemicals which can help prevent some diseases and reduce inflammation.

2. Green Tea

Green tea has many polyphenols that have potent antioxidant properties which are said to be greater than vitamin C. The flavonoids in green tea have a natural anti-oxidant component. It is said to aid weight loss and a general all round anti-aging elixir.

3. Turmeric

A surprising addition to the list, turmeric has huge anti-inflammatory benefits. With the presence of curcumin, it is said to have benefits similar to corticosteroids, without the side effects.

4. Wild Salmon

Cold water fish contain lots of omega-3’s which are high in anti-inflammatory properties. Oily fish is known to cure many ailments and have anti-aging benefits also.

5. Sweet Potato

A wonderful source of fiber, beta-carotene, manganese and vitamin B6 and C, sweet potato help heal inflammation in the body. Anthocyanin, a pigment in sweet potato, is valuable for its anti-inflammatory health benefits.

6. Kelp

Kelp contains fucoidan that is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Kelp is high in fiber, and also has benefits for the liver as it is high in anti-oxidant’s.

7. Olive Oil

The soothing properties of olive oil can help the digestive tract and when cold-pressed, fights inflammation. Oleocanthal, a component found in extra-virgin olive oil is believed to have similar properties to Ibuprofen.

8. Broccoli

Cruciferous vegetables which include cauliflower and brussels sprout, are loaded with anti-oxidant’s and therefore have anti-inflammatory properties. They are naturally detoxifying and can help rid the body of possible harmful compounds.

9. Coconut

Raw coconut is wonderful for its anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-bacteria, and anti-inflammatory effects. Coconut oil is one of the healthiest oils as it doesn’t burn when heated.

10. Papaya

Papaya contains papain, which aid digestion. In combination with other nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, it is very good at reducing inflammation.
