Recycling E-Waste

How many technological devices in the past year have you thrown out or replaced? I personally have counted three so far. So times that by the number of people in the world and you come up with a large pile of “E-Crap”. Sitting there as landfill and not going anywhere soon.

Luckily, there are a number of companies around the world that have jumped on the band-wagon of recycling and who see these now useless products as an opportunity. An opportunity to turn them into something else useful, giving the products another life and another use. Yes, even a lifeless entity can be re-born!

These companies can recycle all sorts of things like computers, screens, printers, photocopiers, scanners, keyboards, mobile phones, televisions, DVDs, VCRs, microwaves, stereos, cameras, electric toys etc.

They can recycle about 95-98% of all collected E-waste into secondary materials for future use.

Recycling E-waste diverts toxic metals from landfill and recycling reduces the amount of waste as well as the mining of raw materials.

There is also a massive energy saving when creating secondary raw materials compared to primary raw materials.  Many of these companies will come and pick up your waste for you, making it very manageable to dispose of your waste correctly.  Some of the manufacturers of the products have some recycling programs in place so it is best to check with them first.  Check your local Municipality or Council for their waste programs and affiliates that deal with waste management.
