Drinking water is essential, and sometimes extra steps are needed to get enough of it to meet the requirements. Whether filtering for added safety or enhancing it to make it more flavorful, the products available in the water market are wide ranging.
The Soma water filtration system contains a unique biodegradable filter that is made from Malaysian coconut shell carbon and silk layers. Its casing is plant based and the combination of materials creates a natural filtering mechanism. It is supposed to make water safer as well as taste fresher and crisper.
The filter system comes with a glass carafe that holds around 6 glasses of water. The idea seems perfect for rural areas, students, travelers or whoever wants ready glassfuls of fresh water nearby.
The filters do need to be periodically replaced, around every 2 months or so. However, their filter purchases provide funding to charity. Soma partners with charity: water, a nonprofit organization that helps provide safe and clean drinking water to communities that desperately need it. They make a donation for each purchased water filter, which helps the efforts to fight the world’s water crisis.
This glass bottle has an insert that opens and allows fresh ingredients like fruits, vegetables, herbs and other natural flavorings to be placed inside and infuse the water with flavor. Though it seems like you could probably just place ingredients in a glass and get the same effect, the tube system would flavor the water without letting seeds, leaves or bitter portions of peels float around the glass. You can also use the glass bottle without the insert.
It can be stored in the fridge until ready, is portable and is certainly healthier than bottled flavored water that can contain unnatural sweeteners, coloring or other additives.
Both of these aim to make water more drinkable and do not rely on disposable plastic or synthetic materials.
