Mosaiculture That Will Blow Your Mind

Montréal, Canada hosts the International Mosaiculture of Montréal , an international competition and exhibition held at the Montréal Botanical Garden.

Forming living constructions from various types and colors of plants, this series of heightened horticultural art displays are rich in color and creativity.

International Mosaiculture of Montréal, a nonprofit establishment, arranges the massive botanical feast for the eyes. It was formed in 1998 and first worked with the local Parks, Gardens and Green Spaces Department for their premier exhibition in 2000. The goal of the event is to endorse the world of horticulture and pay homage to it as an important and beautiful part of our everyday backdrop.

The competition revolves around mosaiculture, an advanced horticultural art form that takes greenery and flowers and transforms them into colossally colorful presentations. This type of ornamental fine art borrows methods from various disciplines. For example, an obvious spotlight is on painting practices to best showcase the numerous bright colors in a uniform way. Also, the forms take note from sculptural artistry to develop volume and structural capabilities.

Blended with horticultural art, mosaiculture dances with many techniques to produce a fantastic performance. Though natural in design, these displays look far from common outdoor scenery.

The triennial friendly rivalry is open to worldwide participants and features horticultural artists from around the globe. The requirements state that a theme must be selected for the work that epitomizes a cultural tie. The materials and flora used in the botanical displays must also be sustainably gathered and developed.

This 2013 exhibition is currently underway and will remain on display until September 29. There are approximately 22,000 different types of plants used throughout 10 greenhouses and 30 gardens that focus on various subjects.

Though plantlife is beautiful in its simplest form, this creative artistry takes the prize.
