Green Tea and its Benefits

I caught a cab the other day and the Japanese driver had the most beautifully glowing skin. He looked about 55 years old and I was shocked to find out he was 20 years older. He told me his secret was green tea. No surprises there!

It has been around for over 4,000 years and green tea contains catechin polyphenols, carotenoids, Vitamin C, chromium, manganese, selenium or zinc. It is a more potent antioxidant than black tea as it contains  epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a very powerful antioxidant. Apparently, EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, which lowers the risk of heart disease.

If this isn’t reason enough to add green tea to your diet, I shall let you in on many other benefits this gem has to offer.  It apparently inhibits the growth of cancer cells or so research suggests, which is extraordinary really as I know no other food to claim this truth. It lowers cholesterol levels and decreases your risk of heart attack.
For those of you interested in weight, green tea increases our metabolism and our ability to burn fat! Definitely a plus.

This wonder tea can also help reduce the risk and treat rheumatoid arthritis, assist immune system, prevent food poisoning and prevent tooth decay because of it’s anti-bacterial properties.

As for your skin, the anti-oxidant packed green tea fights free radicals. All those nasty toxins are expelled from your skin and you are left glowing like a Japanese taxi driver and 20 years younger!

*Green tea naturally contains caffeine so it is wise not to take at night as you may experience insomnia. People with sensitive dispositions to caffeine should be aware of possible irritability, heart palpitations and dizziness.
