Having a few recipes under your cooking belt for special dinners or impromptu company can make all the difference in hosting a hassle free event.
The following recipes are not overly complicated, but they are big on presentation.
They also take advantage of fresh fruits, so using what is seasonally available won’t have you rushing all over the place trying to find ingredients. Some use liqueur and alcohol, but these can be left out or substituted with any favorite flavoring.
For a simple dessert, a fresh fruit platter always works and yogurt, citrus curds, cream cheese or melted chocolate can be served on the side.
For an easy recipe with lots of flavor, fruit salad receives a kick by adding in limoncello liqueur. Using whatever fruits you have on hand tossed with the tart flavored liqueur brings out the fresh taste. Topped with yogurt and store bought or homemade lemon curd, it won’t even look like you just threw it together.
For making a fruit platter more of a filling appetizer, incorporate cheeses that pair well with the produce. Dried fruits also work well with cheese trays. Accoutrements like figs, toasted nuts and breadsticks are good additions to serve with fruits and cheeses.
Easy to do extra touches like martini olives, which can be made ahead and kept on hand in the refrigerator until needed, will make it look like you went the extra mile.
Bruschetta or any crusty bread can be sliced, toasted and topped with a favorite spread and fruit. Mint leaves and a drizzle of honey add to the taste.
For an original spin on a classic, try fruit spring rolls which calls for fresh strawberries and mangos, but any combination of fruits can be used.
Watch the how-to:
If you have some preparation time this dessert may look like it is difficult to prepare, but after washing and thinly slicing the fruit it is really just a matter of arranging. A lot of arranging.
But the end result of this apple pie with bourbon glaze is stunning.
Getting together doesn’t have to mean spending all day preparing or having anxiety when last minute visitors call. Serving simple fruit dishes are healthy and laidback ways to let you enjoy the visit, too.
