Natural Diet Foods For All

Many people are conscious about their bodies and the way they look.

This is especially true when the New Year rolls around and everyone is promising themselves that they will eat better and get into the gym more often.

If you are a dieter, consider a natural diet. Nutrients should come from natural foods. Each food group contains diet foods that provide many nutrients that benefit our overall health.

Vegetables
People who consume more vegetables have less chance of developing disease, according to NaturalFoodBenefits.com.

These diet foods contain vitamins A, E and C, which promote health. They contain few calories while also providing fiber. Zucchini contains fiber, which will help get rid of waste in the body and will keep you feeling full. As a result, you will lose weight.

Eggplant and corn do not contain cholesterol and high cholesterol leads to heart disease. Carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, squash and spinach contain antioxidants or potassium that helps prevent illness and regulate blood pressure. Antioxidants help combat free radicals, which damage cells and potassium helps regulate blood pressure.

Fruit
Fruit provides natural carbohydrates to fuel the body. These foods contain vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to health. Fruits contain little sodium, which can cause high blood pressure. Fruits are also low in calories, which makes them great diet foods.

Fruit is composed of as much as 80 percent water according to NaturalFoodBenefits.com. Water helps prevent dehydration and keep us feeling fuller. Apples, bananas and pears contain high amounts of fiber, which promotes weight loss by aiding digestion and helping you eat less. Grapes contain antioxidants to fight free radicals. Citrus foods like oranges or grapefruit contain vitamin C. Vitamin C provides the body with another antioxidant to help prevent illness, protects the immune system and prevents cardiovascular disease.

Grains
Grains provide iron, magnesium, fiber and B vitamins. They also contain antioxidants not found in fruit or vegetables, according to Gloria Tsang, RD, of HealthCastle.com. Choose foods that contain whole wheat flour as the first ingredient. Whole grains provide fewer calories than white varieties. These foods contain more fiber than refined breads or rice. Grains promote a healthy diet and can help you lose weight.

Dairy
Milk provides lean protein. Protein helps build muscle, which requires more calories to sustain than fat. Protein also helps keep you full. Milk includes vitamins A and D. Vitamin A helps vision, hair growth and tissue production. Vitamin D helps build strong bones. Choose skim or low-fat milk to lower fat content. Low-fat yogurt provides a healthy snack that contains potassium, protein and calcium. Cottage cheese contains similar components to milk. It can be added as a snack between meals to prevent overeating.
