Back to school time often means hurried days and busy evenings, which can sometimes equal a dinner of one of the favorite go-to take out foods for hurried mealtimes – pizza.
There are endless ideas for reusing pizza boxes. The following are a few for giving the pizza box a spotlight as the leftover that can be focused around educational activities for kids.
A simple do it yourself pizza box solar oven is a fun weekend project to involve the whole family or to entertain sleepover guests. With just a few supplies and sunlight children can learn how the process of solar energy heats up foods.
Pizza boxes, aluminum foil, plastic wrap and a black sheet of paper can works to absorb an excess of heat, more than it releases. The container holds in heat, making it useful as a solar cooking vessel.
To do a cooking comparison have kids try using different containers for the solar oven in addition to pizza boxes to see how they work. Kids can construct their own or use supplies from the pantry. For instance, Pringles cans or other aluminum lined containers are ideal.
Though you may not want to make a meal that includes poultry, seafood or meat just to be on the safe side, things like s’mores, fruit crisps and no bake recipes are fun to try.
