Good health is a precious thing, and so it follows that you need to be vigilant about what you put in and on your body.

The personal care and household products you choose not only affect your health and well-being, but also the health and well-being of those you share the planet with.

As a consumer, you have the power to choose products that are safe for everyone.

If a personal care or household product is labelled “eco-friendly” or “green”, it doesn’t necessarily follow that it is earth-friendly, people-friendly or animal-friendly as even the “natural” and “fragrance-free” products often still contain toxic chemicals.

So how can you ensure that you are making a safe and healthy product choice that will bring harm to no one?

– Be open to trying healthy scent-free alternatives
– Refute the idea that strong smells equate with cleanliness
– Don’t blindly trust product labeling – do the research yourself – with the internet so readily available today, you can find out whether something contains toxic chemicals in under a minute – 1500 Fragrance Chemicals
– Use products in their natural form rather than products with additives – i.e. natural skin care using olive oil, vitamin E oil, or grape seed oil
– Keep it simple – use fewer products
– Use cost-effective products such as baking soda, vinegar, lemon, salt, plain soap and water
– Avoid all products that contain fragrances, colognes or perfumes – use scent free products
– Avoid using scented laundry products, fabric softeners or scented cleaning products
– Avoid vinyl products such as shower curtains
– Avoid anti-bacterial products that contain harmful chemicals (triclosan and triclocarban)
– Use oxygenated bleach (sodium percarbonate) instead of ammonia or chlorine bleach that contains a harmful chemical (sodium hypochlorite)
