You’ll Want To Check Out The Library Home

Remember libraries?

This home from Khosla Associates – Architecture + Interiors certainly does.

It brings back a fondness for libraries to the front of the line with all the fervor of a book hungry individual, several decades ago before the endless supply of digital words were available with just the click of a button.

Called the Library Home, this family house located in Bangalore, India was a client-centered project, meeting specific needs and requests. The residents reportedly wanted a blend of an old city feel along with modern touches.

According to the architects, the family of readers had an expanding book collection that took precedence in the design. The library area is the main space in the home, and an intelligent layout as the family area provides lots of room for hanging out, entertaining or spending quite time reading.

The high roof accommodates the large wall mural of bookshelves that inspired the main floor.

It really does have an actual library feel with its open, leisurely attitude. The ability to stroll right out to the backyard garden and neatly landscaped courtyard space is also an ideal arrangement for a family, as the easy indoor to outdoor transitioning offers many possibilities.

The interior includes both connected spaces, as seen in the communal living and dining areas, as well as private zones like the sleeping and bathing quarters.

Abundant windows on each floor allow plenty of sunlight and fresh air. The strategically placed windows make smart use of space that would otherwise block out a lot of natural lighting.

The construction made use of local materials, like stone. There are several energy efficient details, like the rooftop solar panels that provide the majority of the electrical demands. There is also an underground rainwater storage system on site.

Though the home looks relaxed, every detail was chosen with a focus, down to the furniture which was picked exclusively to compliment each area.

The blended styles in this smart home appear polished, inviting and make something as simple as a library stand out.
