When sustainability and talent collide, interesting things happen.
A skilled wood crafter can bring out the natural beauty of the resource material, while transforming it from a chunk of wood into a functional object. The following cabinet designs are a visual step up from the usual, and a leap above the way traditionally manufactured furniture is produced.
Iannone Design uses locally sourced lumber that is Forest Stewardship Council certified and other renewable supplies like bamboo and cork. Their pressed woods are even free of formaldehyde and finished with low VOC coats, and some pieces are given a manually applied natural finish.
They also have cabinets and consoles with etching and carved designs on the wood’s surface which adds to the presentation, but the look of the plain wood is also naturally elegant.

With a team that has a background in architecture and design, South of Urban creates environmentally minded pieces with a modern feel. Using local resources and partnerships, they make solid furniture from recycled and reclaimed materials. They also use salvaged supplies, fallen wood and other ethically gathered items.

Flat Craftworks is another sustainably based furniture company. Their inventory supply list consists of dead, fallen trees and recycled objects. Using the otherwise discarded or left to decompose materials, they handcraft exquisite items that are definitely not cookie cutter designs.
The slow produced, artisan made pieces showcase local woodworking expertise. Accepting custom orders and requests, they also make lighting fixtures. This simple lamp is a testament to their philosophy, as even the smallest pieces of wood are not wasted.

They don’t skimp on style (or on cost), but meeting storage needs while adhering to a sustainable calling, these cabinets contain it all.
