Countries with strict water policies, and drought prone nations, could certainly use an alternative option to the numerous faux conservative shower nozzles circulating the retail market.
Thankfully, the time of limiting ourselves is nearly over.
A New Zealand company called Felton, along with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), has created a solution for the world’s growing water crisis. It’s called the Oxijet nozzle, and it works completely differently from traditional low-flow shower heads.
Instead of lowering water pressure and limiting flow, the Oxijet creates hollow water droplets by pulling air into the water stream. The effect is that you don’t feel a water pressure difference, it’s as if you were taking a normal shower, though you are actually only using about half the water as before.
The General Manager of Felton, Roger Marty, said,
“The concept of using an aerated showerhead to save water is not new, but the technology behind our device using an aerator insert allows the device to work with existing showers already installed…”
The dwindling water supply in many undeveloped nations is a cause for worry, especially with the trending heat waves, predicted to be just as bad, if not worse, this year than in 2012. Many countries have been forced to place severe water restrictions, making proper hygiene a concern for some families.
The Oxijet device’s simple design and function, along with its affordable pricing will definitely make it a popular commodity in the near future.
