Silicon Valley based SunPower, has announced a partnership with GRID Alternatives to provide solar panels for low-income housing. GRID Alternatives is a non-profit solar installer that trains and leads teams of volunteers and job trainees to install solar power for low-income families throughout California. SunPower will provide GRID Alternatives with solar panels through a combination of donations and fair market value sales. The two companies have worked with each other the past six years, assisting hundreds of families in need and providing more than 1,000 employee volunteer hours, philanthropic gifts, equipment donations and sales. A startup called Scoot Networks has launched a Zipcar-style sharing network for electric scooters. The company is a graduate of the Greenstart accelerator program which is focused on incubating startups in the intersection of green and IT. Scoot Networks is building a fleet of smart-phone-enabled, 30 MPH (50 km/h), electric, Vespa-style scooters offered in a convenient, bicycle sharing-type system. Coca-Cola Enterprises is set to roll out a fleet of renewable biogas-powered delivery trucks in London depot as part of a drive to cut its greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs. The investment follows a successful 12-month trial with low carbon vehicle technology advisor, the Centre of Excellence (Cenex), to evaluate and compare the emissions, fuel consumption, economics, reliability and operability of a 26 tonne Iveco Stralis biomethane gas vehicle with that of a diesel Stralis vehicle. Solar-panel maker MiaSole has raised $55 million in venture capital to help it ramp-up production and sales. MiaSole is based in Santa Clara, California, where it makes next-generation solar thin-film panels using copper, indium, gallium and selenium instead of silicon, making them much cheaper to manufacture. The latest funding round included VantagePoint Capital Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bessemer Venture Partners, Firelake Capital Management and Passport Capital.
